How Protein Can Help Support Your Health Goals and Make You Feel Fuller

Did you know that protein plays a crucial role in managing hunger and supporting your health goals? This idea is rooted in the Protein Leverage Hypothesis, which suggests that our bodies are hardwired to prioritise protein intake.

Here’s how it works:

Your body craves protein: When you don’t get enough protein, you may feel the need to eat more, even if you're consuming enough calories.

Hunger control: Protein helps you feel fuller for longer, reducing the likelihood of overeating or snacking on less nutritious foods.

Smart choices: By incorporating protein-rich options, you can help curb hunger and make healthier food choices without overindulging in unnecessary carbs or fats.

But how much protein do you actually need?

Here are the updated guidelines:

For the average active adult female: Aim for 1.6–2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily.

  - Example: If you weigh 65 kg, your target should be between 104–130 grams of protein per day.

For the average active adult male: Aim for 2.0–3.0 grams of lean protein per kilogram of body weight daily.

  - Example: If you weigh 80 kg, your target should be between 160–240 grams of lean protein per day.

Here’s a few examples of how you can easily hit your daily protein goals:

  • Three egg omelette or scrambled = 20g protein
  • A good protein powder (we love True Protein) = 20g - 25g protein
  • Chobani yogurt - 15g to 20g per tub (salted caramel, vanilla and banana are fantastic)
  • Grilled chicken breast (150g) + salad = 45g protein
  • One of our Smart Diet or Fibre Boost protein bars = 20g protein
  • Beef stir-fry with veggies (200g beef) = 50g protein

By incorporating high-protein foods like eggs, chicken, beef, protein powders, and our protein bars, you can easily reach your daily protein intake while supporting hunger control and overall well-being.
